Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's Hills wedding was portrayed on TV like a fairytale.   With blessings from the parents, and Montag's adored ex-bestie Lauren Conrad in tow, the reality couple's nuptials seemingly couldn't have gone better.

But, says the duo, like their so-called divorce, the emotions that came across during their wedding episode were all "fake." Now the couple plan to renew their vows and get a fresh start at married life.

"It was a movie, it was a script and it didn't feel right," Pratt tells Entertainment Tonight of the Hills marriage hoopla. "No one in that building wanted us to get married. It was a nightmare."

Adds Montag, "We had just gone through so much crazy stuff personally and through our jobs and everything, so for me this feels like our first real marriage. Like our first restart. We deserve a second chance at our marriage and really having this moment and not being robbed of this."

The couple have been married since April 2009.

A week after issuing a public apology to estranged wife Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt's "intense soul-searching" seems to have paid off.

On Wednesday, The Hills stars made it clear that Speidi isn't over just yet – with a makeout session, complete with champagne, in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The couple, back from a trip to Costa Rica, reportedly celebrated Montag's 24th birthday with a date at the zoo and dinner on the Santa Barbara Pier.

Whether they are back together or not, it seems Montag has learned one lesson she can use if the two decide to give their marriage another shot.

"First few days back in America! I don't think I will ever leave again, at least I am never letting @SpencerPratt pack again!!!!" she Tweeted Tuesday. "Praise Jesus!"

He quickly earned the title of the guy you love to hate on The Hills, but has this reality TV villain turned over a new leaf?

Spencer Pratt on Wednesday issued a long apology to the woman he's divorcing, Heidi Montag, saying he's planning "intense soul-searching" and pursuing "appropriate avenues for my issues."

"Divorce can be a trying, draining, and emotionally devastating experience for all involved," Pratt, 27, tells PEOPLE. "Despite these hardships, most individuals manage to conduct themselves with dignity and maturity. I did not – I failed spectacularly."

Addressing his actions toward Montag, 23, he says, "I horribly embarrassed the one person that meant the world to me. For my outrageous and infantile behavior, I offer Heidi my most sincere apologies."

He didn't specify what actions, but Pratt has been threatening to release a sex tape involving Montag, launched rants against her on Twitter and has been relentlessly pursuing her in Costa Rica.

"Over the years, her love, support, and friendship were always given, but never properly cherished. I let her down," he says. "She never deserved the pain and anguish I put her through, and although I don't expect it, I hope in time she'll be able to forgive me."

He adds, "Even though our relationship has changed, I will always count her among my best friends."

The Crazy Train Makes a Stop in Costa Rica

Just when you thought it was over, Speidi returns. Although Spencer Pratt signed divorce documents in his split from Heidi Montag less than two weeks ago, the duo continue to stir up drama.

Pratt says he's shopping a sex tape of Montag with another woman and also writing a relationship tell-all. Plus, the two have been sparring on Twitter.

But Sunday, they were spotted by TMZ.com together in Costa Rica where they are still spending time. So what gives?

"I had to bring the puppies down and help them move in," Pratt tells PEOPLE. "[Heidi] thought I was going to leave, but I'm not. I didn't want to get divorced … I have nothing in Malibu, I'm homeless, I'm nothing without her."

Montag admits she agreed to have Pratt join her in Costa Rica. "Everything was calm and going smoothly with the divorce," she says. "We were really getting along and it was amazing he was being so thoughtful to help me move. Then things turned."

By things turning, Montag is referring to the supposed deal Pratt is working on with Vivid Entertainment to sell a sex tape. "There is no sex tape that exists and there never was," she says. "Spencer is trying to drum up press. This is exactly why I wanted to divorce him in the first place."

But Pratt insists such a tape does exist. "I told Heidi … if you don't want to do the new reality show with me, then I'll have to release old footage," he says. "I can get $5 million from a sex tape, but I really don't want to do that. It's not the way I want things to be. Heidi is furious with me but I need to look out for myself."

As for the future, "I'm going to leave the hotel and get a house because Spencer won’t leave me alone and won't go back to Malibu right now," Montag says. "It's just too hard. I still love him, but I can't stand what he's doing."

Heidi Will Have to Get a New Plastic Surgeon

Heidi Montag says she's devastated by the death of the surgeon who transformed her body. "He was the most amazing person I have ever known. He was an angel and changed my life and the lives of everyone he met," Montag, 23, Tweeted Tuesday about Dr. Frank Ryan, who performed her 10 procedures last year.

"He was the most brilliant talented surgeon who will ever exist," she adds. "My thoughts and prayers go out to his mother, family, friends, and anyone who was ever blessed enough to meet him. He is in a better place."

Ryan died Monday after his Jeep careened off the Pacific Coast Highway, according to TMZ.com. While an autopsy is underway, the former Hills star said her doctor lived an alcohol and drug-free life. "FYI Dr. Ryan never drank, never smoked," she Tweeted. "He's never done drugs this was something everyone knows about him. He was always on call 24/7."

"We are all in shock," Ryan's rep tells PEOPLE. "He was such a hardworking philanthropic man, a loving son, and responsible for changing many people's lives for the better. He will be missed by many."

I recently got a request from a reader for more Spidi news. I've shyed away from this topic for awhile now because they are just so redic (see pic), but there have been some interesting developments recently...

It's official: Speidi is really coming to an end. Spencer Pratt's divorce papers in his split with Heidi Montag were filed in the Santa Monica, Calif., courthouse Thursday afternoon, Jodeane Farrell, a lawyer for Montag tells PEOPLE.

"Spencer has acknowledged that the divorce is going forward," Farrell added. "He signed the papers."

Pratt signed the documents last week on Aug. 13, which will make the former reality TV stars' divorce final six months from that date – on Valentine's Day. Montag filed for divorce on July 30, citing irreconcilable differences.

I love that their divorce will be finalized on V day...you know they are both going to be hosting cheesy "Divorce/I'm Single/V Day Parties" in Las Vegas.

(Not A) Surprise We're Divorced

These two are so redic.

It's only been a few hours since Heidi Montag filed for divorce, and already estranged hubby Spencer Pratt is trying to steal the spotlight.

"I love Heidi but our marriage was a show – it was part of The Hills world," Pratt said Friday. "And that world is on a sound stage."

As for the reason for the split, Pratt, referring to himself in the third person, said, "It's clear that reality TV-fame-loving Spencer Pratt does not fit with my ex-wife Heidi Montag's ambitions for a motion picture actor/pop star career and being a single sex symbol for the world."

In the end, it seems the relationship just wasn't big enough for two divas. "Some say if you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen, Well, Heidi couldn't handle King Spencer's fame so she got out of the marriage."

The reality star, 23, filed for legal separation from husband Spencer Pratt at a Santa Monica courthouse on Tuesday, listing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. But Montag did not file divorce papers. According to reports, filing for legal separation means the reality star’s earnings will become her separate property beginning on the date of separation, which she lists as June 8.
