Vamp on Vamp Loving

Some actors rehearse their lines over and over. Others practice with their coaches. But True Blood‘s Theo Alexander prefers a more unconventional routine to prepare for a scene.

“I remember that I went back to my trailer and I concentrated. I did some acting exercises. I was playing the archetype of a lover, so I put on a sexy, slow song and almost did like a belly dance,” the Greek actor tells Movieline.com about getting ready for his vampire-on-vampire sex scene with Alexander Skarsgard.

Though Alexander — who plays Talbot, the lover of the vampire King of Mississippi, on the hit HBO series — says he and Skarsgard were “both a little anxious” the week leading up to the shoot, he thinks he was even more terrified than his costar since his nerves kicked in immediately after he received the script. “The part about kissing another man” was what scared him the most, he says.

“Many people told me, ‘Oh, just close your eyes and think of him as a woman.’ But no, because that is a totally different energy … I had to open myself to be able to actually be attracted to him, like, really attracted to him,” Alexander explains, adding that Skarsgard “helped me get beyond the physical part of the scene.”

“I’m glad I did it,” he says, “because every time you face your fears you move forward.”

His family, however, won’t get to see him tackle those fears. “Actually, my mother will get the DVD without that scene,” he says with a laugh.
